The fashionable Parisian design firm Saddier et Fils gained international acclaim in the 1920s after exhibiting their strikingly modern furniture ensembles at the Expositions Décorative Française Contemporaire throughout the decade. Best known for their dining room and bedroom suites, the Saddier brothers, Fernand and Gaston, infused their works with sumptuous woods, clean lines, elegant forms and avant-garde concepts. They collaborated on room interiors with other Art Deco luminaries such as Edgar Brandt, Raymond Quibel, and Jean and Jacques Adnet, and the firm's singular most important and recognizable work is the present coiffeuse. With its sycamore veneer, sweeping curves and geometric cabinetry, this self-contained creation represents the brothers' most dramatic and forward thinking design. The piece was introduced at the 1928 Salon d'Automne and has been published a number of times since.
