Alberto and Diego Giacometti counted among their circle of friends Christian Berard, Emilio Terry, Adolph Chanaux and Jean-Michel Frank. This highly talented group of designers proved to be successful taste makers for Parisian society. Frank had been introduced to the Giacomettis by Man Ray in 1929, and a successful friendship was formed. Frank's talent had been well recognized, having been named artistic Director of Chanaux et Cie. in 1930 and awarded important commissions for homes of Elsa Schiaparelli, and Vicomte Charles de Noailles. Frank commissioned a series of plaster and bronze lighting from the Giacometti Brothers and as seen in the offices of Chanaux et Cie. pictured in the frontispiece to Pierre Martin-Viviers book, Jean Michel Frank, the designs were both diverse and fanciful.
