In this painting, Tjapaltjarri (born ca. 1958) depicts the Mangilpa, a small plant that grows in the swampy areas of Lake MacKay and produces black seeds that are ground up and used to form a type of food stuff. The artist and two of his brothers came in from the Great Sandy Desert in 1984 and their travel was their first contact with the Western world.
