Six to Major E.C.Grogan, Irish Guards,

1939-1945 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence Medal; War Medal; General Service 1918-62, two bars, Palestine 1945-48, Cyprus (Capt.E.C.Grogan. I.G.); Coronation 1953. Court mounted as worn, with corresponding miniatures. Lightly polished very fine, edge bruise to GSM. (Lot)

He enlisted on 13.11.1942 and was granted an Emergency Commission on 12.9.1943, he learned to fight as an Armoured Officer at the Guards Armoured Training Wing and joined the 2nd Battalion in September 1944 just at the end of Operation Market Garden. He was a Troop Leader with No.2 Squadron and in the last months of the war was a Platoon Commander in No4 Company of the 3rd Battalion. After 1947 his career was almost entirely with 1st Battalion seeing service in Palestine, Tripoli, Rhine Army, Egypt and Cyprus, becoming a very experienced Company Commander. He was a great shot and helped the 1st Battalion win a number of trophies in the late 1950's. He ended his service attached to RHQ and retired from service on 3.8.1960. He died on 21.1.1996 after a short illness.
