Footnotes

Samuel Edward Vickers was born at Plymouth on 15.6.1900. He joined the R.A.N. in Sydney on 17.10.1918. He served on various ships including HMAS Encounter, HMAS Brisbane and HMAS Australia. He was discharged on 16.10.1925, but re-enlisted on 12.4.1927. Served in Operations on the Bass Strait from early September 1939 then to Singapore and duty escorting convoys in the Indian Ocean with actions against the Italians near Aden and the evacuation of British somaliland. served with Mediterranean Fleet August 1941, the Operations Malaya from January 1942, served on HMAS Penguin, HMAS Melville, HMAS Latrobe. Discharged 25.4.1944 as permanently unfit for Naval Service.
