For courage, skill and devotion to duty in command of H.M.S. Albacore in a dangerous Minesweeping Operation in the Mediterranean in May 1943.

The lot comprises a detailed archive including Buckingham Palace slip for the D.S.C., MID certificates (2), all these three documents framed (slightly faded). Various paintings he did himself, binoculars in case of issue, buttons, photographs (loose and framed), WW2 medal box, RNR Officer's Training Certificate Book, Master Competency certificate and other assorted period correspondence.

He first served aboard HMS Rodney before WW2, and served as Captain aboard HMS Bridlington for the Dieppe raid. He was then flown out to the Mediterranean to command HMS Albacore and took part in the defence of Malta and then the raids on Sicily, Salerno, Anzio and Livorno. He was awarded a DSC for his part in protecting a 12 mile supply convoy of troops and supplies. He was actively involved with the destruction of magnetic mines. He was demobbed in 1946 and attended Southampton University to qualify as a Master Mariner returning to sea in 1954 for training on HMS Carisbrooke Castle. He devoted spare time on service to painting and his naval work is included in the lot. He worked for Marley Tiles for over 30 years after his Naval service.

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
