Autograph letter signed, to Sir saying: "I am to receive the LLD on the 7th. I should be very glad to have three tickets for lady friends as near to the platform as possible. This address will find me". one page (split to vertical center fold), headed paper, Tower Hotel, Hawick, dated 'March 27 1905'

Conan Doyle was honoured by the University of Edinburgh, which bestowed upon him an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Law (LLD). Fellow-recipients were William Watson Cheyne, Professor of Surgery at King's College Hospital, London, and John Hughlings Jackson, Neurologist. The ceremony took place on 7th April 1905, and the Laureation address was given by Sir Ludovic J. Grant Bart., Dean of the Faculty of Law.
