An 18ct gold replica of the Irish 'Cavan brooch'

Engraved to the reverse 'December 17 1849', hallmarked for Dublin, weight 19.80g

Footnotes

The Cavan brooch (also known as the 'Queen's Brooch' after a replica of it was presented to Queen Victoria on the occasion of her visit to the Great Exhibition in Dublin 1853) dates to the end of the 8th century. It was discovered on the banks of the Erne at Rivory. The creatures in the design appear to be forerunners of the Irish animal style of the 9th century.
