Footnotes
The first edition of this "classic work on the North of Brazil" (Borba de Moraes). Henry Koster, born in Lisbon, emigrated to Brazil in 1809, where after an extensive tour of the interior of Pernambuco, he settled on the island of Itamaracá as a sugar merchant, until his death in 1820. This work was published during a visit the author made to England.
