Footnotes
Robert Robin (1741-1799) became Marchand- Horloger Privilégié du Roi on 22nd October 1763, but perhaps the most brilliant phase of his career began when he introduced his self-named escapement to Paris in 1791. Sometimes nicknamed 'half-chronometer' as it used both the principles of the lever and chronometer escapements. The problem was that it was prohibitively complex and expensive to produce.
