An ormolu and kingwood musical desk compendium,

circa 1850, signed to casting A. Giroux,
Ser. No. 10088,
with the cylinder movement playing two airs, single-section comb on plain brass bedplate, mounted in the shaped kingwood veneered base with double baulle frieze and gilt feet, the compendium cast with great detail of a country dwelling with the roof lifting to reveal candle for stained glass window illumination, sign gable with roof lifting for seal oil wick, wax seal cluster held within log enclosure below, pen supported on brackets to eves of the house, rider on horseback in front when lifted, actuating musical movement and the base of rider as seal fob, inkwell to front as tree stamp before steam and well, close details include birds, flowers, rocks and mushrooms, with key - 10in. (25.5cm) wide, 8in. (20cm) high, the cylinder 3in. (7.5cm)
