A Medieval Sword Of Oakeshott Type XI
Early 13th Century

In excavated condition, with long double-edged blade with shallow central fuller over most of its length on both sides, hilt comprising quillons of slightly waisted square section, flat tapering tang slightly hollowed on each side, and chamfered wheel pommel, the blade and tang retaining accretions, probably from the scabbard and grip-scales
94.6 cm. blade, 112.8 cm. overall

This sword can be compared to the Oldenburg sword found at the site of the Stedinger battle of 1234

The pommel conforms to Oakeshott's Type I with a cross-guard of Style 3
