A Swept-Hilt Rapier
Early 17th Century

With sharply tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section incised 'Jesus Maria' within the central fuller on each side of the forte, the fuller extending into the rectangular ricasso on both sides, iron hilt composed of bars of circular section and comprising slightly downcurved horizontal quillons swelling towards the tips, three outer side-rings swelling at their centres, the top most linked by a curved bar to the knuckle-guard, inner-guard of three converging slender bars joining the knuckle-guard, faceted globular pommel with button, and grip bound with twisted iron wire between Turk's heads (some pitting overall, minor brazed repairs)
