The First 19th Century
The first comprising a pair of iron-mounted black buck horns riveted to a circular brass-mounted buckler, the former each with iron point of diamond section, the latter slightly convex with applied brass border, four brass bosses and a brass crescent; the second with earlier katar blade now fitted into a bulbous silvered brass mount (possibly from a hookah) with punched foliate decoration and set with three silver flower-heads, on silvered brass haft of tapering circular section punched with Hindi inscriptions, and with later scabbard for the blade (2)

The madu is an Indian parrying or thrusting weapon used by the Bhils and other wild tribes. It is also thought to have been a favourite weapon of Hindu religious beggars
