A Cased 16-Bore Percussion Sporting Rifle
By W. Richards, London, Circa 1860

With rebrowned octagonal sighted barrel rifled with eight grooves, leaf-sighted to 160 yards and signed along the top flat at the breech, border engraved octagonal breech decorated with foliage and with pierced silver plug, foliate scroll engraved tang, signed back-action lock and hammer, figured half-stock with chequered pistol-grip, border engraved iron mounts (some wear and rust patination) decorated with scrolling foliage and comprising butt-plate and trigger-guard, the latter retaining some original blueing on the inside and with pineapple finial, dark horn fore-end cap, vacant white-metal escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and original brass-mounted ramrod: in original lined and fitted brass-mounted oak case with interchangeable 12-bore gun barrel in two stages and en suite with the rifle barrel, and some accessories including brass bullet mould for casting conical bullets, the interior of the lid with reproduction trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle centred on a circular vacant brass escutcheon, Birmingham proof marks
