A Continental 11-Bore Military Matchlock Musket
Second Quarter Of The 17th Century

With octagonal sighted barrel struck with indistinct barrelsmith's marks on the top flat at the breech, plain tang retained from beneath, applied rectangular pan with flash-shield and pivoting cover, flat rectangular lock incised with pairs of vertical lines and with convex serpentine, lightly figured full stock with 'fish-tail' butt of Anglo-Dutch form, flat iron trigger-guard and butt-plate, iron ramrod-band and fore-end band, and wooden ramrod, possibly original, with iron tip
