A German 25-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun
By Matheus Gram In Augspurg, Circa 1750

With blued shortened two-stage barrel (fore-sight missing) turned at the girdle and signed along the top flat at the breech, octagonal breech stamped thrice with the maker's silver-lined marks and numbered '1' behind, engraved tang, bright flat bevelled lock (cock replaced) engraved with a cherub beneath the pan and with a bird amid foliage on the tail, moulded figured half-stock (some old splits, chipped below the lock) carved in low relief with rocailles around the barrel tang and behind the cheek-piece, brass mounts each engraved with a perched bird amid foliage and comprising shaped side-plate, butt-plate (retaining screw missing) numbered '221' and spur trigger-guard, the finial numbered '2', engraved faceted brass ramrod-pipes, horn fore-end cap, and horn-tipped ramrod (one sling loop missing)
