The first with browned twist sighted barrels signed along the hollowed rib and each stamped with barrelsmith's mark of Leclerc beneath (Neue Støckel 7243), case-hardened breeches engraved with scrolling foliage between, foliate engraved case-hardened tang with gold owner's initials 'AR' in a gold oval, shaped border engraved case-hardened locks each decorated with scrolling foliage and a gundog pursuing gamebirds in a landscape, varnished highly figured half-stock with chequered grip and cheek-piece, foliate scroll engraved blued steels mounts including border engraved trigger-guard with a stag in a landscape on the bow, case-hardened trigger-plate with foliate engraved finial, blued rear ramrod-pipe en suite, and original brass-tipped ramrod with threaded iron worm; the second made en suite, the case-hardened tang, signed back-action locks, mounts and under-lever all engraved with scrolling foliage; and the third with fullered double-edged blade etched 'Lefaucheux a Paris' within panels towards the forte, case-hardened cross-guard etched with foliage and with owner's initials 'AR' on the side-guard, and fluted swelling ivory grip with faceted pommel-cap en suite with the guard, in original blued steel scabbard etched with scrolling foliage over its lower half on both sides and on the frog-hook, all in fine condition retaining nearly all their original finish: in original rosewood veneered case fitted and lined in plum velvet (some fading) with full accessories (companion hunting sword missing) including G. & J.W. Hawksley powder- and shot-flasks with white-metal nozzles, the former with flattened bag-shaped copper body, the latter with leather body and both in fine condition, iron bullet mould with sprue-cutter, hammer with case-hardened head, and original leather slings, the exterior of the lid (split) with shaped brass escutcheon engraved with owner's coat-of-arms and motto within a border of brass stringing

The coat-of-arms and motto appears to be those of Count Verchère de Reffye of Burgundy. A Jean-Baptiste Auguste Verchère de Reffye (1821-1880) was a French military general and superintendant of the works at Meudon. He was a former ordnance officer for Napoleon III and established the gun manufactory at Tarbes. In 1866 he developed the Reffye Mitrailleuse, one of the most successful of the early machine guns, which was in use during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. In 1870 he developed the Reffye 85mm breech-loading rifled cannon
