The First By J. Purdey, 314½ Oxford Street, London, No. 8011 For 1869, The Second Each With Birmingham Silver Hallmarks For 1863 And Indistinct Maker's Mark
The first fitted and lined in red baize for a d.b. percussion sporting gun and accessories (the compartment dividers missing), the interior of the lid with maker's trade label inscribed in ink 'Sept. 1869', the exterior with flush-fitting circular brass carrying handle centered on a circular vacant brass escutcheon; the second each engraved with foliate scrollwork and from a Purdey 38-bore d.b. sporting rifle, no. 6336 (3)
