An English Basket-Hilted Backsword
Mid-17th Century

With tapering blade double-edged at the point and with narrow fuller along the back for most of its length on each side, the forte on both sides with remains of a running wolf mark, iron 'Irish' guard of flattened bars secured by a screw to the pommel, each slightly swelling towards the centre and involving a saltire on both sides, slender fore-guards, globular pommel with pewter button, and staghorn grip (some surface rust overall)
