A Naval Officer's Five-Ball Hilted Spadroon, And An 1805 Pattern Naval Officer's Sword
The First By Baker & Son, Henrietta Strt., Covent Garden, Late 18th Century, The Second Early 19th Century

The first with tapering fullered blade (pitted) double-edged at the point, copper hilt originally gilt and comprising side-guard, knuckle-guard (ring missing), lobed rear quillon, engraved cushion-shaped pommel, and reeded ivory grip with medial band engraved with owner's monogram in an oval on one side, in original black leather scabbard (worn, open along the seam) with linear engraved mounts and two rings for suspension, the locket signed within a rectangular panel on one side; the second with fullered single-edged blade (some wear and light pitting) etched and gilt with foliage, a naval trophy and crowned 'GR' cypher along one side, and a fouled anchor and crowned royal arms on the other, both sides retaining traces of original blueing beneath each langet, regulation gilt-copper stirrup hilt cast with a fouled anchor on each langet, lobed rear quillon, pommel cast and chased as a lion-mask and extending down to form a faceted back-piece, and ribbed ivory grip bound with copper wire (2)
