A Shinkai school naginata in "tiger skin" mounts

By Izumi no kami Fujiwara Kunitora, 17th century
Sugata (configuration): naginatazukuri, mitsumune
Kitae (forging pattern): ko-mokume
Hamon (tempering pattern): midare in nie with ara nie, ashi, sunagashi and tobiyaki
Boshi (tip): togari with a long return
Nakago (tang): ubu with sujikai and kessho file marks, one hole, signed Izumi (no) kami Fujiwara Kunitora and with chrysanthemum crest
Habaki (collar): one-piece, silver
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 16 3/8in (41.3cm)
Koshirae (mounts): "Tiger skin" saya fashioned from the skin of a Japanese mountain cat, and fitted on an original pole contemporary to the blade, decorated with aogai in black lacquer

With green Token Kantei certificate no. 013645, issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (The society for the preservation of the Japan art sword), dated 1982.6.19.

With Kantei certificate no.110522, issued by the Nihon Token Hozonkai (The society for the preservation of the Japanese sword) for the pole, dated 2011.10.9, stating the pole dates to the Momoyama period (early 17th century).
