A Yamashiro tachi in itomaki tachi mounts
Late 13th-early 14th century
Sugata (configuration): honzukuri iroimune, koshizori, chu-gissaki
Kitae (forging pattern): itame mixed with mokume in jinie
Hamon (tempering pattern): gunome choji midare and juka choji midare turning to suguha in the upper half with ashi, sakachoji, yo and tobiyaki
Boshi (tip): ko-maru
Horimono (carving): bohi on the omote and bohi ni tsurehi on the ura
Nakago (tang): o-suriage with three holes and later file marks
Habaki (collar): one-piece, gilt-copper
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 28 1/2in (72.4cm)
Motohaba (width at start of tempered edge): 1 3/16in (3cm)
Sakihaba (width before tip): 3/4in (1.9cm)
Koshirae (mounts): a ninteenth-century efu-dachi goshirae lacquered in rich nashiji with shakudo migakiji hardware decorated with scrolling paulownia vines and chrysanthemum florets in gold hirazogan, the tsuka wrapped in blue silk over brocade and fitted with gilt-copper chrysanthemum menuki, shakudo migakiji mokko tachi tsuba decorated with paulownia and chrysanthemum scroll in gold hirazogan
With a kantei certificate written by Yoshimura Shiko attributing this sword to Rai Kunitoshi, dated 1947.12
