A suit of armor with a russet-iron yokohagi okegawa cuirass

18th century
Laced in blue and comprising a sixty-two plate suji kabuto swelling at the back in goshozan shape, lacquered black and surmounted with a four-stage chrysanthemum tehen kanamono, the bowl fitted with a five-lame Hineno jikoro, the lowest lame applied with textured leather, the fukigaeshi with matching leather and applied with shakudo crests used by the Date family, the kuwagata supported by kuwagatadai applied with the same crests, the maedate a gold-lacquer water plantain; the black-lacquer Reisei men applied with a stiff bristle mustache and a "chin tuft" of metal, the four-lame yodarekake decorated to match the shikoro; the russet-iron ni-mai yokohagi okegawa do with gold-lacquered kozane at the lower section in dangae style, decorated on the front with three floral family crests carved in low relief and with a Sanskrit character and invocations to the Hachiman god, Tenshokotai and Kasuga shrines in gold lacquer and silver and shakudo crests used by the Date family, fitted with six sections of five-lame kusazari decorated to match the other components; chu-sode lacquered gold; russet-iron shinogote with chain mail and square plates on the upper arms; Etchu haidate; shino suneate; no armor box; no stand
