The body constructed of lacquered leather and decorated with a Buddhist dharma wheel on one side and a sun before swirling clouds in red lacquer on a black-lacquer ground, now faded to brown, the handle forged in russet iron and pierced with an inoshishime for a suspension cord
With a wood box inscribed on the lid Rinpo moyo gunpai (Dharma wheel-design war fan) and on the underside Chisoku'in sama Senko'in sama goshiyo 24 1/2 in (62.1cm.) long
