Two small Satsuma vessels

The first by Yozan; the second by Matsumoto Hozan, late 19th century
Each painted in polychrome enamels and gilding over a clear, crackled glaze, the first a gourd-shaped vase with panels of an immortal riding on a crane and a scholar and attendant before a pavilion, the surrounding areas painted with geometric patterns and dragon roundels against a floral ground, signed Yozan; the second a cylindrical incense burner decorated with a frieze of perfomers on a stage and beauties reading before officials, the shoulder and pierced cover painted with flower blossoms, signed Matsumoto Hozan 4 3/8in (11.6cm); 3 7/8in (9.9cm) high
