A lacquer handwarmer (te-aburi)
By Kamisaka Yukichi (1886-1938)
The deep vessel constructed of several shades of wood, stained and lacquered for effect and inlaid with the characters from a poem by Hon'ami Koetsu (1558-1673), in inlaid pewter and mother-of-pearl in the style of the Koetsu's calligraphy, applied with bronze handles and inset with a copper liner
With a wood storage box inscribed Koetsu moji makie hyoju and signed Heian makieshi Yukichi saku and sealed Yu 10 1/4in (26cm) high, 12 3/8in (32cm) diameter
