Ivory figural group of man, boy and chickens on a bridge

Late 19th century
Realistically carved as an elderly man watching as a young boy crawls over a bridge toward a basket from which escaped a rooster, hen and chicks, each figure with a pouch (sagemono) hung from sashes, the eyes inlaid with dark horn and the details rendered with fine lines, the underside of the bridge carved with a Chinese-style landscape; fitted wood stand 22 1/4in (56.5cm) long (including stand)
