The nashiji inro decorated with a pair of swans inlaid in mother-of-pearl, their beaks, the surrounding reeds and the rippling water all rendered in gold takamakie, interiors nashiji, signed Kanshosai and kao and inscribed Hogen Eisen ga and kao; fitted with a glass bead ojime 2 7/8in (7.3cm) long

The design on this inro is taken from a painting by Kano Eisen, either Kano Furunobu (1696-1731), or Kano Sukenobu (1730-1790), both of whom used the art name Eisen.
