An engraved King of Prussia opaque-twist wine glass, circa 1760
The generous ogee bowl decorated with the head and shoulders portrait of the King within an oval panel flanked by leaf scroll, the reverse with the double-headed eagle within an oval line medallion flanked by stylised flowers and scroll, inscribed above SUCCESS TO THE KING OF PRUSSIA, set on a double-series stem and conical foot, 19.6cm high

The inscription refers to King Frederick II of Prussia (1712-1786), popularly known as Frederick the Great. The present lot probably celebrates the Seven Years War (1756-1763) in which Great Britain and Prussia were in alliance against Saxony, France and Russia.
