A rare engraved Privateer opaque-twist wine glass, circa 1760

The flared bucket bowl decorated with a three-masted ship, inscribed Succefs to the EAGLE FRIGATE John Knill Commander, set on a double-series stem and conical foot, 16.5cm high 375.P in red on the foot

The Eagle, of 250 tons and with 24 guns, owned by Messrs. Camplin and Smith of Bristol and Manslip and Wilkinson of London, was declared on 13 November 1756 by Captain John Knill. She has been described as 'a fine large ship built on purpose for a privateer by a gentleman of this city...'.
