LITERATURE:
G. Balas, New Horizons, (Tel Aviv, 1980) no.4, illustrated
Kosso Eloul was born in Mourom, Russia in 1920 and emigrated to Eretz Israel, with his family in 1924. In 1939 he began his studies in Danzinger's studio whose Canaanite sculptures were a great influence on Eloul's work. After a short period Eloul left to continue his studies at the Chicago Art Institute, where he became acquainted with pre-Colombian sculpture. In 1948, he was one of the founders of the New Horizons Group. The shepherd's daughter is an important example of the combination between the new spirit of the Canaanite-Israeli young Israeli art, and the primitives of great perished cultures. The present work was probably exhibited in the New Horizons exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum in 1956.
