A late 19th century Austro-Hungarian silver and parcel-gilt torah shield and chain

maker's mark HS or SH, circa 1900,
the shield-shaped back plate embossed with acanthus leaves and bead-edged sections, the central panel applied with engraved twin tablets flanked by lions surmounted by an openwork crown, on a stippled ground, with an openwork section below holds five narrow tablets each engraved in Hebrew, reverse applied with a German inscription on a slightly later plaque, length 38cm, weight 34oz.
