PROVENANCE:
A private collection, Tel Aviv
Avigor Stematsky was born in Odessa and immigrated to Palestine in 1922. He was a founder of the New Horizons Group and participated in the first New Horizons exhibition in Tel Aviv in 1949. Between 1961 and 1962 Stemasky visited Paris and during his extended stay there was influenced by the work of Jean Fautrier. ReferRing to works from this period, Yona Fischer describes 'the forms which dissolves and soreads out across the area of the picture, which serves it as a kind of background.'
In 1993, Stemasky was the subject of a major retrospective at the Tel Aviv Museum.
