Footnotes

The sculptor, Otto Placzek, was awarded the prize of designing the commemorative medals issued by the Organising Committee for the '36 Games. These included those for the aeroplane, automobile and bicycle rallies, in addition to a customised medal for the carrier pigeon breeders who offered their birds for the festivities of the opening ceremony. The reverse of all of the medals have the uniform design of the Olympic Bell, whilst the obverse of each signifies a specific sport or activity.
