Footnotes

Sailing events have been included in every Olympic Games, with the exception of 1904. For the 1908 Olympiad, the IOC decided to adopt the newly configured International Rule of 1906, with five classes of 6,7,8,12 & 15 metres. Due to the short notice there were no entries for the largest 15 Metre class, and only two for the 12 metre, both from the UK. Because of this, instead of racing in the Solent at Ryde, the 12 metre class competed on the Clyde. The final result was Gold Medal to Hera, Thomas Glen-Coats, and Silver Medal to Mouchette Charles MacIver. There was no Bronze Medal, obviously.
