Footnotes

Silvio Gazzaniga, born in 1921, is a sculptor from Milan, Italy. While working for the Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni company, he created the F.I.F.A. World Cup Trophy. His design was chosen by committee on April 5, 1971. Gazzaniga has since designed the U.E.F.A. Cup trophy (1972), the U.E.F.A. Super Cup trophy (1973), the U.E.F.A. Under-21 European Championship trophy and the Baseball World Cup trophy (2001).

The 1960 Paralympics were the first international paralympic games, and were held from September 18th to 25th 1960 in Rome, Italy. This trophy is believed to have been awarded to a Paralympian for outstanding individual performance, possibly Franco Rossi of Italy for his performances in the wheelchair fencing event.
