In the present lot, Harold Harvey has returned to a theme he first visited in 1935 with Cornish Miners (RA 1936, no. 735, and exhibited elswhere as St. Just Tin Miners, now in the collection of the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro). The sitters in that work have been idenfied as 'authentic local characters' Sidney Angrove (left) and Nicholas Grenfell (right)1. Harvey uses the same sitters in the present work.
