An ivory netsuke of a shishi

By Yoshinaga, Kyoto, late 18th century
Recumbent, its head turned to the right as it glowers, a movable ball is visible within its open mouth, its forelegs outstretched and its curly tail passing forward over the back, the ivory is slightly worn and of a good colour, the eye pupils inlaid, signed in an oval reserve Yoshinaga. 4.7cm (1 7/8in).
