Footnotes
象牙彫根付 鹿 銘「岡友(方印)」 18世紀後期/19世紀前期
Published: Rosemary Bandini, ibid., p.118, no.171.
A very similar example, from the Frederick Meinertzhagen collection, was exhibited at the Red Cross Exhibition, London 1915, no.61, illus. pl.LI, and is also illustrated in The Meinertzhagen Card Index, p.617.
Although the work is confidently attributed to Okatomo and is a good example of his style, the signature is a little hesitant and may have been worn and re-engraved at a later date.
