Lying with its head raised, and its body twisted slightly to the left, its forelegs bent as if about to rise, the slightly-worn wood bears a good patina and the eyes are inlaid with pale translucent horn, signed hachi-ju-ni sai Toyomasa. 4.5cm (1¾in).

The wild boar, as shown in this attitude, was made in several versions by Toyomasa. The inscription on the present example states that the netsuke was made by Toyomasa at the age of 82, two years before his death.
