A silver-mounted snuff box, possibly Meissen, 19th century
Cartouche-shaped, modelled with a recumbent pug on the cover, the sides painted with a continuous Kauffahrtei scene depicting merchants and their wares by a quayside, the base with a similar scene in purple camaieu, the cover with two vignettes flanking the pug, within a gilt scrollwork border, the inside cover with an oval panel depicting an elegant lady seated at a table, within a border of gilt scrollwork and flowers, the mount with scroll thumbpiece, 7cm across
