A Meissen gold-mounted purple-mosaic-ground oval snuff-box, circa 1750
Each side reserved with a coloured rocaille cartouche enclosing a Watteauesque scene of elegant figures in park settings, the cover and base with similar scene, the mosaic ground embellished with gilt flower-heads, the inside cover with a seated gentleman playing the lute to a lady, with two lambs at their feet in a park setting, the gold mounts chased with foliate scrollwork, 6cm across; 4cm high
