Footnotes
Richard Pilsbury (1830-1897) was one of Minton's leading artists, specializing in flower painting. Previous to his position at Minton, he apprenticed with Samuel Alcock & Co. and was an instructor at the National School of Design at Marlborough House. Whilst at Minton, Pilsbury's work was included in numerous international exhibitions. The scale of the present lot suggests the pair were probably exhibition pieces.
