ROCKET DEVELOPMENT.

GODDARD, ROBERT H. Liquid-Propellant Rocket Development. Washington D.C.: Smithsonian Institution, March 16, 1936. With 11 pp of photographic illustrations. 9½ by 6¼ inches. Original printed wrappers. Very minor thumbing and a bit of fading to wrappers.

First edition of this rare and ephemeral report which includes photographic illustrations of the first launching of a liquid fuel rocket (1926); the first scientific "payload" in a rocket flight (1929); Goddard's shop, launch tower, and launching using gyroscopic stabilizer in New Mexico (early 1930s). This copy with neat ownership inscription of Milton A. Rothman [1919-2001, the nuclear physicist and science fiction author]; and with large faded inkstamp of the Mercantile Library dated Mar 25, 1936 (less than 2 weeks after publication) on the front cover.
