CONRAD'S LUNAR DUST-EMBEDDED OPTICAL DEVICE.

CARRIED TO THE LUNAR SURFACE.
Flown Apollo 12 COAS sun filter consisting of a 2 inch square metal frame, 1½ inch in diameter tinted glass, a small velcro tab, and a 6 inch long strap with embedded lunar dust. An ID plate reads in part: "Autonetics, a division of North American Aviation, Inc., Anaheim, CA. Filter Assy, PT 41297-701-11, SER 06359-1295BKA." Included is a written analysis of the embedded lunar material on Conrad's personal stationery and a copy of page 42 from the Apollo 12 stowage list.

CHARLES CONRAD'S autograph manuscript note reads in part: "This 'Crewman Optical Alignment Sight' (COAS) ... was flown to the lunar surface aboard the Lunar Module Intrepid during the flight of Apollo XII. I used the COAS to help locate the Surveyor landing site. The filter was used in bright sun light. The filter and strap attachment logged over 31 hours on the lunar surface during November 19-20, 1969. It is listed on page 42 of the Apollo XII stowage list. It has been in my personal collection since I returned from the moon."
