GODDARD MEMORIAL TROPHY.

The Dr. Robert H. Goddard Memorial Trophy, presented to Webb in 1971. Bronze bust of Goddard by Joseph Anthony Atchison, 1961, cast by the Modern Art Foundry of New York. Mounted on a marble plinth, total height 370 mm. The plinth with several plaques, one reading: "Presented to the Honorable James E. Webb for his outstanding leadership of the National Aeronautic and Space Administration and his organization of the industrial team whereby the program was established for man's first landing on the moon."

The trophy is awarded annually by the National Space Club. In 1970, it was awarded to to the Apollo 11 astronauts. The bust bears the motto "Approximavit sidera" ("He brought the stars closer")—a maxim as appropriate for Webb as it is for Goddard.
