KENNEDY REVIEWS THE SPACE PROGRAM.

Typed Letter Signed ("John Kennedy"), 1 p, 10 x 7 inches, Washington, April 9, 1963, to James Webb, light toning to left side, stapled to a mimeographed memorandum.

Kennedy explains to Webb that "recent events have made it desirable to review a number of questions related to the Nation's space effort," and that accordingly he has asked the Vice President to produce a report. He encloses the memorandum he sent to the VP, in which he asks about the benefits to the economy in dollar terms of the space program, about the negative effects on non-space-related R&D, and about whether efforts could be scaled back from 1964 onwards "in areas not directly affecting the Apollo program (and therefore not compromising the timetable for the first manned lunar landing)."
