4 draftman's sketches for high-altitude manned ballooning capsules:
1. "O.N.R. [Office of Naval Research] W.R.I. [Winzen Research Inc.] Strato Lab IV for Mars studies." October 24, 1958. Exterior, cutaway, and overall views of the gondola, on black background. This mission took place on November 28-29, 1959, carrying its crew to 81,000 feet; the capsule carried a 16-inch telescope for planetary observation.
2. "Artist view of Project Strato-Lab." November 14, 1955. 2 cutaway views of the gondola, with overall view in between and views of livery in corners.
3. "Stratolab gondola and proposed modifications for astronomical flight." June 15, 1957. Cutaway, exterior and overall views.
4. "Stratolab gondola." July 26, 1955. 2 cutaway views showing details, and detail of shroud.
All pencil on tracing paper. Approximately 34 x 22 inches.
