A very large Berlin plaque depicting the Ecstasy of St. Cecilia, second half 19th century
Painted after Raphael by Carl Meinelt, the Saint standing with her eyes raised, holding organ pipes, signed lower left 'C Meinelt', 52cm by 43cm, impressed sceptre mark and KPM, incised 25-20
Footnotes
Carl Meinelt is recorded as a porcelain painter in Bamberg between 1852 and 1886. He was awarded a bronze medal at the London International Exhibition in 1862.
The St. Cecilia Alterpiece was commissioned around 1516-17 for a chapel dedicated to the Saint at the Augustinian church of San Giovanni in Monte, Bologna, and now hangs in the Pinacoteca Nazionale.
